ASMR - Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response - Plastic Crinkle and Such

ASMR - Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response - Plastic Crinkle and Such

Some people ask about the Plastic Crinkle versions of my videos. The plastic crinkle is called ASMR.

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and it refers to a perceptual phenomenon that involves a pleasurable tingling sensation in the head, scalp, back, or peripheral regions of the body and a feeling of relaxation and euphoria - i.e. an altered state of consciousness - in response to various stimuli such as whispering, tapping scratching, crinkling of plastic, paying attention to a task, and other stimuli.

It does not occur for everyone.

ASMR is generally reported as being first discussed in online forums in 2007. One of the early posts often cited is “WEIRD SENSATION FEELS GOOD,” by forum member “okaywhatever,” on SteadyHealth.com http://www.steadyhealth.com/WEIRD_SENSATION_FEELS_GOOD_t146445.html

Forum member "tingler" replied to the thread, and referred to the phenomenon as “Attention Induced Head Orgasm” (AIHO).

ASMR was referred to with various names including "Attention Induced Head Orgasm" and "braingasm" until 2010 when Jen Allen, founder of the facebook group "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response Group" https://www.facebook.com/groups/ASMRGroup/ coined the name Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response.

Autonomous refers to the ability to create the sensation at will. Meridian is Old French for "of the noon time, midday" and refers to the "high" or euphoria experienced - i.e. an altered state of consciousness. It also refers to the acupuncture meridians which are the paths though which prana - life-energy - flows.

There has been no real scientific research done on ASMR. However so many people have claimed online to experience ASMR and the popularity of the subject on social media sites such as YouTube, FaceBook, Blogger and other blog sites, is such that it is not likely to be a figment of everybody'simagination or a mass hallucination.

There is something to ASMR!

ASMR is a quick way, for those who can experience it, to move to an altered state of consciousness, a meditative state of consciousness.

Meditators have reported these sensations for a long time and generally believe it to be an indication of energy flowing and energy pathways being unblocked.

The body has many energy centers called Chakras. There are also many energy pathways referred to as Meridians in Chinese Traditional Medicine and Nadis in Indian Ayurvedic Medicine.

There is a healing life energy known as Prana and is also called Chi, Qi, Ki, and various other names by various cultures throughout the world and through time. Prana flows though our physical and subtle bodies via these energy pathways known as Meridians and Nadis.

Tingling on the top of the head and down the spine indicate pranic energy flowing in those important areas.

The Crown Chakra is located on the top of the head and is closely connected to the third eye, pineal gland and pituitary gland.

The spine is the location of important acupuncture meridians and Nadis.

Tingling in other parts of the body indicate activity of the energy centers and pathways in those areas.

ASMR IS meditation!

People have been using various techniques that could be described as ASMR to induce altered states of consciousness since the dawn of human kind.

Drum beats have been used to induce a trance like state in various tribal cultures.

Religious rituals that require one to pay close attention to each step.

Hypnotists that talk softly; affirmations that are spoken softly.

And, there are various meditation practices from the east that utilize sound.

With some ASMR videos when one is feeling the ASMR "tinglegasms" they are "IN THE NOW" and it is quite like the practice of zen.

With some ASMR videos the soft whispering is basically guided meditation and visualization.

The way ASMR is typically used is different than traditional meditation practices.

Traditional meditation practice can be done with ASMR.

It is quite simple. When your thoughts wander just acknowledge it and bring your thoughts back to the ASMR. Don't chastise yourself or think thoughts about how you wont do it again. Just bring your mind back to the ASMR.

With practice the mind will wander less and less and will be caught wandering sooner and sooner.

Close eyes and Look up during ASMR.

I suspect that there is a higher force of consciousness at play here. It is interesting that when this phenomenon was first talked about online, sexual language was used to describe the feeling. This introduced the idea that there is a sexual component to ASMR. Sex sells! What better way to attract a lot of people's attention and get them to try ASMR. Seems like some force somewhere wants people to meditate whether they know it or not. Think of all the people who would normally laugh at someone who sits and stares at a dot on the wall, who are now mesmerized by ASMR videos. I wonder if this could have something to do with the 2012 shift.

(I am sure that most people who are into ASMR do not laugh at meditators, I was referring to the few who do.)

FINAL NOTE

Karmic Beats is unique in its use of ASMR and binaural beats and isochronic pulses. To the best of my knowledge no others have done a mixture of binaural beats and/or isochronic pulses and ASMR. When I searched for such videos, I found that binaural with respect to ASMR generally refers to binaural recording a technique of recoding sounds and not to binaural beats. Binaural beats and binaural recording are similarly named but completely different subjects.

Varticle (NOUN) - a written composition which is displayed in a video format.

I use ChaosPro for the fractal videos.

I use Windows Movie Maker to put it all together.

I am using a Windows 8.1 Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop with 6 GB

BEWARE of bad speakers and bad audio. Laptop speakers may not even be audible with binaural and isochronic beats that have no other sounds. Some laptops and computers can have poor audio that can introduce popping and other audio artifacts. It is best to use a decent pair of headphones or earbuds. Good earbuds can be bought for around $10-$15.
